SHARE Club has multiple events at NFM Rec Center
The North Fort Myers Recreation Center has numerous programs for the area’s senior population. Over the next couple weeks, the SHARE Club will have two major events.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, there will be a free educational program in Medicare options for 2016 ahead of the November enrollment period from 5 to 8 p.m.
On Oct. 28, there will be the first of numerous dinner dances that are held throughout the “snow bird” season, also beginning
You must be a SHARE Club member and have a recreation center membership to attend either event.
Paula Short, program coordinator for the SHARE Club in North Fort Myers, said the Medicare program will be held throughout Lee County and is typically one of the most heavily attended programs, so reservations are advised.
“It’s for people who are turning 65 and want to know information on Medicare,” Short said. “People also want updates on Medicare because there are so many options. It gets them prepared for open enrollment which begins on Nov. 1.”
Jo Marshall, a counselor for SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders), will be the speaker and can answer any questions people may have.
The program will also be available in South Fort Myers, Estero, Cape Coral and Fort Myers, Short said.
“Medicare changes every year with the prices and the ins and outs and Jo is a great speaker on the subject. She’s been doing this for years,” Short said.
The dinner-dance the following week will not have a Halloween theme as in the past, so don’t bring your costumes. The cost is $8 per person, which includes the meal and entertainment featuring The Entertainers, a musical duo.
Short said there will also be a Salute to our Veterans breakfast event at Cape Coral Hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Auxiliary Room. It is open to all military members.
