Special Pops Golf Classic slots remain
Spaces are going quick for the annual golf tourney to benefit Cape Coral Special Populations.
Organized by the Guardian Angels for Special Population, the 9th Annual Special Populations Golf Classic will take place on Nov. 7 at the Palmetto Pine Country Club, with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. The four-player team scramble will feature cash prizes, drawings, 50/50 raffle, food and more.
As of Thursday, nearly 30 teams had signed up to take part in this year’s tournament.
“Were over 100 golfers, so that’s great,” Vince Marcucci, president of the Guardian Angels, said.
He urged those who are interested in participating to not wait long to register.
“We can only max out at 144 golfers,” Marcucci said.
The deadline to sign up is Nov. 6.
Last year, the tourney raised approximately $32,000 for Special Populations.
“We did have a few spaces left,” he said.
Golfers can register in teams of four, or individuals will be paired up.
“We’ll hook you up with other people,” Marcucci said.
The entry fee is $100 per player and includes the 18-hole round of golf, a continental breakfast and buffet lunch, complimentary beverages and snacks during play, and a complimentary gift bag.
Registration and breakfast will open at 7 a.m.
“I know that the county club has a cash bar,” he said.
The shotgun start will follow.
“We have two complimentary beverage carts, with snacks, that go around throughout the day,” Marcucci said.
Mulligans can be purchased for $5.
“They can take away their worst putt,” he said. “It helps their score.”
Cash prizes totaling $800 will be given away for closest to the hole and such; the groups are broken down by men and women to give everyone a chance at winning.
“There’s prizes at each of the holes,” Marcucci said.
One hole features a $10,000 sponsored cash prize. Other holes also have prizes for a hole-in-one, including a flatscreen television, set of Callaway irons and roundtrip domestic airfare for two.
“We have a great square board game,” he said.
Participants can purchase squares for $10 each. The lucky winner will take home deals for local restaurants, hotels, services, sports games and more, valued at approximately $2,500.
“That’s our grand prize for the square,” Marcucci said.
After the tournament, lunch will be served.
“Palmetto Pine Country Club does a really great job for us,” he said. “It’s awesome.”
Throughout the day, there will also be prize drawings and a 50/50 raffled held.
“The raffles are all local businesses that donated,” Marcucci said.
He urged people to sign up and take part.
“It’s for a great cause – the Special Populations participants will be there to cheer the golfers on,” Marcucci said. “It really gives the golfers an idea of why they’re there. It’s a nice experience.”
