Two ejected in rollover vehicle crash
Two people were thrown from a vehicle on Tuesday after the driver reportedly ran a red light.
Police reported that Tritton “Trey” Cobb, 19, of North Fort Myers, and Joseph A. Rodriguez, 19, of Cape Coral, were ejected from a Chevrolet Blazer at Del Prado Boulevard and Pine Island Road.
Travis Joshua Morgan, 19, of the Cape, was driving the SUV northbound on Del Prado when he reportedly ran the red light at the intersection. A Chevrolet Malibu headed westbound on Pine Island in the inside lane had started to travel forward. The front of it struck the passenger side of the SUV.
The impact forced the Blazer to rotate, and it rolled over toward the driver side twice. The SUV exited the roadway and entered the grassy shoulder as it rolled, hitting bushes and a tree before it stopped.
During the rollover, Cobb and Rodriguez were thrown from the Blazer.
Neither were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, according to police.
One passenger came to rest in the grassy area. The other struck the outside rearview mirror of a Scion, which was parked in a lot in the northeast corner of the intersection, before coming to a final stop.
Cobb and Rodriguez were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, both were listed in critical condition at the hospital.
Morgan sustained minor injuries in the crash and was also taken to a hospital.
As of Wednesday, he had been treated and released.
The driver of the Malibu, Cassidy Rae Fitch, 19, of Cape Coral, sustained minor injuries in the accident. Police reported that Fitch refused medical transport on scene for her injuries.
There was minor damage caused to the Scion, which was unoccupied.
According to police, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
