‘Knight on Broadway’

North Fort Myers High School will showcase some of its biggest and brightest talents as it presents the 11th annual “Knight on Broadway” event Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Nearly 130 of North’s best performers will be on stage – solo, duet and in ensemble – performing some of Broadway’s most memorable tunes.

“We just do a variety of songs from a ton of different musicals, so if you don’t like one song, you’ll like the next one,” said Michelle Whitener, who runs the Drama Department at the high school. “One song may be a comedy, the next might be a heartfelt duet. It’s a real Broadway variety show.”

Whitener said this is the first big production of the year before auditions begin for the spring show, which this year will be “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

“We let everyone be a part of this. We have a big opening with 100 people, a big closing with 100 people, and smaller groups, duets and solos from old school to new musicals,” Whitener sad. “It’s great because you have so many different styles.”

There will be no costumes or much in the way of special effects – just the kids and the music.

For many of the students, it’s their time to shine, which will be very important as they want to gain an edge for when audition time comes. Whitener said her students want to impress, or at least show they’re ready to be their best at the right time.

“I’m a football fan myself and I tell me students how similar athletics is to performing. You put in the time, the practice, and you want to be in that top group and bring your best at the right time,” Whitener said. “We have talented kids who care a lot about the program. They give 100 percent. They want to show they’re as ready and good as they can be.”

General admission seating is $5. Tickets will be sold the night of the show. For more information, call the school at 995-2117.
