Cape woman struck, killed attempting to cross U.S. 41
A Cape Coral woman was killed Wednesday night when she attempted to walk across U.S. 41 in Fort Myers and was struck by a vehicle.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Brittni Lee Gemmell, 26, was hit at 6:35 p.m. by a 2002 Ford F150 driven by Kenneth Alan Thomas, 48, of Fort Myers.
The report states that Thomas was traveling south on U.S. 41 in the center lane entering the intersection at Pine Drive, North, when Gemmell, walking west from the roadway median, walked into the path of his pickup truck.
FHP reported that Thomas said he did not have time to slow or stop before striking Gemmell, who was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital after the accident.
