‘Sweet Charity’
Tickets are running out for the Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund’s Theater Night.
The annual event will take place on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Cultural Park Theatre, with “Sweet Charity” on stage. Prior to the show, dinner and cocktails will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral Art League. The event is a fundraiser for the Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund.
Liz Stuart, the event chair, explained that nearly 200 tickets were available at the start.
“We probably have maybe 30 left,” she said on Thursday.
The tickets cost $30 per person.
According to Stuart, the event has served as a fundraiser for several years.
“Everything has been donated for the evening, so any money that people pay for the tickets goes toward the scholarships,” she said.
The Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund has been serving the community through scholarships for more than 30 years. Last year, the fund awarded 26 high school seniors with $1,500 scholarships.
“We raise around $6,500 at this event,” Stuart said.
Tickets typically sellout, and organizers are hoping for the same this year.
“It’s to the point that we usually have to turn people down,” she said.
The evening kicks off with a buffet barbecue, served alongside beer, wine and other drinks.
“Annie’s restaurant is catering the dinner,” Stuart said.
Dinner lasts until 6:30 p.m., with the doors to the theater opening at 6:15 p.m.
“We have 30 or 40 minutes before the show start,” she said.
Inside the theater, there will be a beverage service, as well as an opportunity for attendees to win various prizes in several raffles. Tickets can be purchased for $5 on site and used toward items valued at $250 or less, while the tickets sold for $10 can for used on raffle items valued at $250 or more.
“We have donated baseball tickets, symphony tickets and theater tickets,” Stuart said. “We also have original artwork, lots of wine. I think we have some jewelry – just a wide variety of things.”
Seating for the play will begin at 6:45 p.m.
“It’s a light musical comedy,” she said of the show.
The winners of the rafflers will be announced during intermission.
Stuart encouraged the public to pick up tickets.
“It’s a wonderful way to support the youth of the community,” she said. “And it’s a wonderful community night out with dinner and theatre for $30. You certainly can’t touch that.”

The Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund is also looking for corporate sponsors, which primarily makes up the funding for the scholarships. A donation of $1,500 helps support one scholarship.
