Blind Bunny Ball Drop and Not Quite an Easter Egg Hunt slated for March 26
The Florida Council of the Blind is registering children to take part in a Cape Coral fundraiser.
The first-ever Blind Bunny Ball Drop and Not Quite an Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Coral Oaks Golf Course. People can buy numbered balls, which will be dropped over the driving range by a helicopter; the ball that lands in the flagged hole is the winner.
Organizers are currently signing up youth to help collect the balls once the winners is declared.
“We just opened up registration for the kids,” Mike Ulrich, the event organizer, said.
They will be provided with canvas bags to collect the balls in.
“They’ll get 10 cents for every ball they pick up and turn into us,” he said.
The children will also get a coupon for a free ice cream cone.
At the start of the event, one numbered ball out of the 2,500 total balls to be dropped will be selected. The child who retrieves and turns in the selected ball will take home the grand prize Easter basket.
“I’ve got a whole slew of family-related gift cards and gift certificates,” Ulrich said.
Some of the goodies include tickets to the Naples Zoo, the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium and Sun Splash Family Waterpark, a one-year family pass to the Imaginarium Science Center and more.
Prizes will also be awarded to the top three youth who collect the most balls.
“Rumor has it, the Easter Bunny may be there, too,” he said.
There are 75 spots available for the children.
“We need their parents to pre-register them,” Ulrich said.
The child’s name and age will be needed, as well as a parent’s name and contact information.
“They need to be out there by noon,” he said, referring to the day of the event.
The goal of the Blind Bunny Ball Drop and Not Quite an Easter Egg Hunt is to raise funds for the Florida Council of the Blind, with a portion going to the Annual Blind Fishing Tournament.
People can purchase the balls online at: blindbunnyballdrop.org.
They will be asked if they want to donate $2 out of the $10 toward the local chapter.
The winner of the ball drop will receive a cash prize of up to $5,000. If none of the balls land in the flagged hole, then the prize money will go to the owner of the numbered ball closest to the hole.
