CCPD: missing person case now a homicide investigation
What started as a missing persons case a week ago has now been upgraded to an active homicide investigation, according to Cape Coral Police Detectives.
Cape detectives today confirmed that James Richard Marshall, a Cape Coral man who was reported missing on Friday, Feb. 19, has died and that foul play is suspected in his death.
Over the past several days, detectives, forensics personnel, divers and marine units from Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office have been assisting in this investigation, collecting evidence in and around Marshall’s Southeast Cape Coral home.??In a press release issued by the CCPD shortly before 5 p.m. today, based on evidence collected thus far, detectives do not believe this was a random incident. Detectives do have a person of interest in this case.
“This is still a very active investigation. While no arrests have been made at this time, our detectives and forensics personnel are working diligently to bring this case to a close,” said Capt Lisa Barnes of the Cape Coral Police Department Investigative Services Bureau.
The death marks the first homicide in Cape Coral since 2014.
