Road Watch: Week of Feb. 14

This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

Travelers also can visit www.FL511.com or dial “511” from their phone to learn about traffic conditions on major roadways across the state. If you know before you go, you can plan accordingly and save time and money.

Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.

** LEE COUNTY

* US 41 southbound north of Pondella Road: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing drainage pipes along the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* US 41 from Business 41 to Del Prado Boulevard: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing drainage pipes along the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* US 41 from Batista Farms Road to Elwood Road: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect outside southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, for crews to construct a deceleration lane. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* US 41 from Santa Elena Drive to Hickory Drive: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect outside southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, for crews to construct a deceleration lane. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* SR 884 Colonial Boulevard from Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard to I-75: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for crews to replace pavement markings. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* SR 867/McGregor Boulevard at A&W Bulb Road: Construction project: This intersection improvement project begins with installation of construction signs along the project limits and placing erosion control. Work includes a new traffic signal, median modifications and resurfacing. The improvements also include sidewalks, signs and pavement markings.

Motorists should expect lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the project.

Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is early summer 2016. The Contractor is Wright Construction Group.

* SR 82/Immokalee Road at Homestead Road: Construction project: Crews will be constructing an eastbound left-turn lane at the intersection of SR 82 and Homestead Road.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project

Drivers should expect possible delays and use caution while crews work in the roadway. Flaggers will be on site to maintain traffic. Estimated project completion is Spring of 2016. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

* SR 80 east of Tropic Avenue: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing drainage pipes along the roadway during daytime hours. Work also includes driveway replacement. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 78/Bayshore Road at New Post Road: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weather permitting for crews to remove a turn lane at the intersection. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* R 78/Pine Island Road at Santa Barbara Boulevard: Construction project: Work is underway to add a new westbound left-turn lane at the intersection of Pine Island Road/Santa Barbara Boulevard to accommodate more vehicles turning left onto Santa Barbara Boulevard.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the project

Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is spring 2016. The Contractor is Florida Safety Contractors.

* SR 78/Pine Island Road at Chiquita Boulevard: Construction project: Work is underway to extend the existing westbound left-turn lane at the intersection of Pine Island Road/Chiquita Boulevard to accommodate more vehicles turning left onto Chiquita Boulevard.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the project

Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is spring 2016. The Contractor is Florida Safety Contractors.

* State Roadways (SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 865, SR 867, SR 884 and US 41): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges. Motorists should expect lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

**CHARLOTTE COUNTY

*I-75 from south of Harborview Drive (mile marker #167) to Sumter Boulevard (mile marker #182): Construction project: This project widens the road from four to six lanes and adds a 12-foot travel lane and 10-foot shoulder to the inside of existing northbound and southbound I-75. Work begins with installation of construction signs and silt fence for erosion control.

Yorkshire Street is temporarily closed at the I-75 overpass. Motorists should follow detour signs

Lane closures and ramp closures may occur in both the northbound and southbound travel lanes from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is end of 2017. The contractor is Astaldi Construction Corporation.

*I-75 from Lee/Charlotte County Line to North Jones Loop Road (mile marker #161): Construction project: Crews are adding lanes, resurfacing the existing roadway, performing bridge work, making drainage improvements, and adding guardrail, signs and pavement markings from the Lee/Charlotte County Line to south of Tuckers Grade (exit #158). Crews are also making drainage improvements from north of Tuckers Grade (exit #158) to south of North Jones Loop Road (exit #161). Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during the nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic shifts to the outside of the roadway through the majority of the project. Motorists should also use caution as construction vehicles and equipment enter and exit the roadway. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE. Variable message boards notify motorists of anticipated closures. Estimated project completion is early 2017. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, Inc.

*US 41 from Enterprise Drive to Sarasota/Charlotte County Line: Construction project: Crews are working to expand US 41 to six lanes from Enterprise Drive to the Sarasota/Charlotte County Line. This 3.6-mile project also includes making roadway drainage improvements, installing water and sewer lines, adding bike lanes and sidewalk and replacing signals at Enterprise Drive, Toledo Blade Boulevard and S. Cranberry/Cornelius Boulevards. Crews are installing new utilities, building new roadway and drainage.

Collingswood Boulevard is closed at US 41. Motorists should follow detour signs.

Northbound and southbound traffic is shifted to the outside onto temporary pavement

The Chamberlain Boulevard median opening will close for this phase of construction; motorists should follow the detour signs

The speed limit is reduced to 40 miles per hour

Drivers should be aware of construction vehicles and equipment entering and exiting the roadway. The contractor expects to complete work in spring 2017. The contractor is Guymann Construction Inc.

* US 41 from Charlotte County Line to Morningside Drive: Construction project: Crews will be widening northbound shoulders and resurfacing the roadway. This project also includes updating signage and pavement markings. Work occurs during daytime and nighttime hours. Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures through the duration of the project.

Southbound traffic now uses the west side of the roadway at the Charlotte/Lee County line. Motorists exiting driveways and side streets in this area should use caution

Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated completion is early 2016. The Contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

SR 31 from Lee/Charlotte County Line to CR 74/Bermont Road: Construction project: Work is underway to resurface this roadway. This 12-mile project includes repairing existing drainage facilities and improvements to signage and pavement markings throughout the project. Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures through the duration of the project. Drivers should expect possible delays and use caution while crews work in the roadway. Estimated completion is early 2016. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

** COLLIER COUNTY

*I-75 from Broward County Line (mile marker 25) to east of CR 951/Collier Boulevard (mile marker 101): Construction project: This safety project adds approximately 78 miles (39 miles in each direction) of guardrail along I-75/Alligator Alley from the Broward County line to east of CR 951 in Collier County. Crews will begin a moving pavement operation at CR 951 (exit 101) and work easterly to the Broward County Line. Crews will then work from the Broward County Line westerly to just east of CR 951. Guardrail installation will follow behind the pavement operation. Crews will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with intermittent lane closures. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., through the duration of the project

Motorists should expect the outside southbound lane closed from mile marker 86 to mile marker 80

Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. The contractor is the de Moya Group, Inc. Estimated completion is summer 2017.

* I-75 from SR 951/Collier Boulevard (mile marker 101) to east of the toll plaza (mile marker 100): Construction project: Crews are resurfacing and adding signs and pavement markings to the northbound lanes. This project also removes the median crossovers just east and west of the toll plaza. Drivers should use caution as construction vehicles and equipment enter and exit the roadway. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE. The contractor does not anticipate night work on this project. Estimated project completion is early 2016. The contractor is General Asphalt Company, Inc.

* I-75 from north of CR 951/Collier Boulevard (mile marker 101) to just north of Golden Gate Parkway (mile marker 105):Construction project: This project adds six lanes and adds a 12-foot travel lane and 10-foot shoulder to the inside of existing northbound and southbound I-75. Work begins with installation of construction signs and silt fence for erosion control. Lane closures and ramp closures may occur in both the northbound and southbound travel lanes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is early 2017. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, Inc.

* US 41 Mosquito Canal to SR 29: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing US 41 from east of the Mosquito Canal to SR 29. This project also includes shoulder widening and guardrail replacements. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project. Flaggers will be on site to maintain traffic.

Motorists should expect lane closures between SR 29 and Port of the Islands during daytime hours while crews pave the roadway

Crews are widening existing turn lanes at the Indian Village and Boardwalk

Drivers should expect possible delays and use caution while crews work in the roadway. Estimated completion is spring 2016. The contractor is General Asphalt Company, Inc.

* US 41 From Pelican Bay Boulevard to Vanderbilt Beach Road: Construction project: Crews will be placing sidewalk, curb and gutter, bus shelter pads, handrail, drainage, relocate lighting and signing and pavement marking US 41. Work occurs during daytime and nighttime hours. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated completion is early 2016. The Contractor is Quality Enterprises USA, Inc.

* SR 951/Collier Boulevard from Tower Road to Championship Drive: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect the outside southbound lane closed during the nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, for crews to install concrete poles. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* SR 951/Collier Boulevard from US 41 to Eagle Creek Drive: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, for crews to construct new turn lanes. Drivers should use caution traveling in this area.

* CR 896/Pine Ridge Road from US 41 to east of Caribbean Road: Construction project: This quarter mile project includes a new westbound left-turn lane at the Pine Ridge Road/US 41 intersection, milling and resurfacing, and drainage improvements. The improvements also include traffic signal replacement, landscaping, sidewalks, and signage/pavement markings.

Westbound lane closures may occur during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and eastbound lane closures may occur during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Drivers should use caution traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is spring 2016. The Contractor is Wright Construction Group.

** DESOTO COUNTY

US 17 from CR 760A to Heard Street and within the City of Arcadia: Construction project: Crews are expanding US 17 to four lanes. Work is underway for two new travel lanes to the east of existing US 17 travel lanes includes utility activities, installation of drainage and fill soils, and new roadway construction. The contractor plans a single lane flagging of US 17 at near SW Skates St./Los Pinos Rd. for drainage installation, short duration flagging operations on US 17 from CR-760A to Welles Ave., and at various side streets form SW Skates St. to Robin Road. Northbound and southbound US 17 traffic have switched to the new portion of US 17 from south of CR 760A/McCaskill Street to north of CR 760/Welles Avenue. Traffic remains on the existing lanes of US 17 north of Joshua Creek. Motorists should continue to observe the posted speed limits. Work vehicles are entering and exiting the roadway during the week. Please use caution and plan additional travel time. Expected project completion is in the summer of 2017. The contractor is Conalvias USA.

** GLADES COUNTY

* SR 78 from Canal Boat Ramp to Okeechobee County Line: Construction project: Crews are re-setting guardrail throughout project limits. Watch for single lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. Work on this project includes resurfacing and resetting guardrail. Expected project completion is summer 2016. The contractor is Lawrence-Lynch Corporation.

* SR 78 in the City of Lakeport: Maintenance project: Crews will be landscaping near the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* US 27 from the Highlands County Line to the City of Palmdale: Maintenance project: Crews will be landscaping near the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* US 27 over the Caloosahatchee River: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12 for crews to perform maintenance work on the bridge, weather permitting. Flaggers will maintain both directions of traffic. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.

* State Roadways (SR 78, SR 29 and US 27): Maintenance contract project: Crews will be striping the state roadways and bridges. Motorists should expect lane closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

** HENDRY

* US 27 from SR 80 to the City of Clewiston: Construction project: Work continues to build a bi-directional weigh-in-motion scale in the median. Motorists should expect the inside lanes closed throughout the project. Estimated completion is early 2016. The contractor is Quality Enterprises USA, Inc.

* US 27 from the Highlands County Line to the Palm Beach County Line: Maintenance project: Crews will be cleaning drainage culverts near the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 82/Immokalee Road from the Lee/Hendry County Line to the Hendry/Collier County Line: Construction project: Crews begin work to widen SR 82 to four lanes from the Lee/Hendry County line to the Hendry/Collier County line. This 1.3 mile project improves drainage to manage water running off the roadway and builds new five-foot sidewalk on the north side of the road. Motorists should expect lane closures while crews are working and use caution traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is end of 2016. The contractor is Community Asphalt Corporation.

* SR 80 from west of Cowboy Way to Huggett Road: Maintenance project: Crews will be installing a waterline near the east side of the roadway during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 80 from west of Cowboy Way to Huggett Road: Permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for crews to perform underground work for installation of a new traffic signal. Drivers should use caution as crews work in the roadway.

* SR 29 from the City of LaBelle Water Plant to Willis Drive: Maintenance project: Crews will be preforming shoulder work and laying sod during daytime hours, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 29 from the City of LaBelle to the Collier County Line: Maintenance project: Crews will be repairing guardrail during daytime hours, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 29 in the Town of Felda: Maintenance project: Crews will be replacing drainage pipes during daytime hours, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* SR 29 from the Duda Work Camp to the Town of Felda: Maintenance project: Crews will be landscaping near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures and use caution as crews work near the roadway.

* State Roadways (SR 29 and SR 80): Maintenance contract project: Crews will be striping the state roadways and bridges. Motorists should expect lane closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
