Traffic accident sends two to local hospitals
Two people were sent to the hospital last week after a two-vehicle crash in Cape Coral.
At about 2:01 p.m. Friday, William Francis Sullivan, 59, of the Cape, was driving a Kia Forte west on Kismet Parkway and approaching the intersection at Nelson Road, according to police. At the time, another Kia Forte was stopped in the northbound lanes of Nelson Road at the stop sign.
Witnesses reported that Sullivan ran the stop sign at the four-way intersection as the second Forte, driven by Michael William Wisniewski Jr., 18, also of the Cape, headed north into the intersection. As a result, the front left section of Sullivan’s vehicle struck the front right part of Wisniewski’s vehicle.
Sullivan’s vehicle was forced out of the intersection, struck a stop sign and came to a rest in a field, according to police.
Wisniewski’s vehicle was forced to the west and came to stop in the intersection.
Sullivan was found unresponsive in the front passenger seat with life-threatening injuries. He was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition on Tuesday.
Wisniewski and a passenger in his vehicle, an unidentified 15-year-old boy, also from the Cape, sustained minor injuries in the accident, but both refused medical transport, police reported. A second passenger, Arielle J. Gray, 19, of Bokeelia, also suffered minor injuries and she was transported.
As of Tuesday, Gray had been treated and released from Cape Coral Hospital.
It was unknown at the time if the crash was alcohol or drug related, according to police.
