Cape Coral man killed in single-car crash Saturday
A Cape Coral man was killed over the weekend after he lost control of a vehicle and crashed.
Milton Josue Rodriguez Navarro, 34, of 921 N.W. Eighth Place, was pronounced dead on Saturday following the accident in the 2300 block of Nelson Road North, according to police officials.
Witnesses told the police that Navarro was driving a Chevrolet Corvette south on Nelson from Kismet Parkway in the outside lane. At 6:59 p.m., the vehicle accelerated quickly and Navarro began to lose control. The passenger side rearview mirror struck a mailbox at a home at 2306 N. Nelson Road.
The Corvette began to fishtail and drove off the road, entering the front yard of 2300 N. Nelson Road and striking a cement culvert. It went airborne over the driveway and came down in a vacant field.
Police reported that the Corvette continued southbound, striking a raised portion of land in the front yard of 2220 N. Nelson Road. The front of the vehicle dug in and its rear end flipped forward and over, with the Corvette crushing down on its roof. It came to a final rest in the front yard of the residence.
Navarro reportedly sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on scene.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, according to police.
