‘March in the Park set for March 12

“March in the Park,” the annual fundraiser of the Garden Club of Cape Coral, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 12, at Jaycee Park in the Cape.

Admission and Parking are free.

The garden club will have a booth and has been taking cuttings and dividing plants from their own yards especially for this sale. Marc from Calusa Palm in Naples will have palms, flowering trees, ginger and heliconias, Brittain Tropicals will have pitcher plants, orchids and air plants. Other plants include bonsai, bromeliads, succulents and perennials. Homemade canned goods will be available from Judy’s Jungle, and Bella Verde Farm will have veggies from their garden. Garden art will include painted pots by Sandy Sacco, Glory Days will have metal sun yard decor, and balancing birds. Chemwise will have liquid fertilizer, and MW Horticulture Recycling will have compost and green soil. Lee County IFAS Extension/Master Gardeners will be available to ‘Ask the Expert’ any plant questions, or problems you may have.

Food, music and opportunity drawings will be available all day. Opportunity Drawing items include a Rain Barrel (hand painted by a club member), Garden Cart filled with plants and gardening items, two tickets to Broadway Palm Dinner Theater, two tickets to Edison Ford Winter Estates, four tickets to Cultural Park Theater, plus donations from all vendors. Opportunity drawings will be $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased the day of event or before from any garden club member.

A free Kids Corner will be manned by club members with creative nature related fun activities for all ages. Speakers will be making informative presentations every hour through out the day. Kathy Woodlock, a Garden Club member and master gardener will demonstrate Earth Boxes. Vanessa Hazleton will demonstrate making a basket out of a palm. The Trafalgar Middle School Garden Club will demonstrate how to plant in a bale of hay. Students from Cape Coral HS Bella Verde Farm will talk about Bio-Char.

The Garden Club of Cape Coral is a non-profit organization and all proceeds from “March in the Park” help the Garden Club achieve its objectives of educating members, awarding local high school seniors Marty Ward merit awards, civic beautification, Habitat for Humanity, Wekiva Youth Camp sponsorships, donate to local middle and high school garden projects and to promote civic awareness of environmental and conservation concerns.

The Garden Club of Cape Coral has open meetings the second Wednesday of every month (no meetings June, July and August), at 7 p.m. at the Cape Coral Art League, 516 Cultural Park Blvd., in Cape Coral,
