Sounds of Jazz & Blues: Annual Cape concert Saturday at Tarpon Point

3 min read

The 25th annual Sounds of Jazz and Blues will fill the air with music on Saturday in the city.

Organized by Cape Coral’s Parks and Recreation Department, the musical event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Tarpon Point Marina, at 6179 Black Marlin Lane. The gates will open at 5 p.m.

The festival kicks off with Mario “The Catman” Infanti and the Catmandoods at 5:30 p.m., followed by Mike Imbasciani at 6:45 p.m. The headliner for the night, Spyro Hyra, will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

Todd King, spokesman for the Parks and Recreation Department, explained that Infanti is a jazz performer from Fort Myers and Imbasciani is a local blues artist. Spyro Hyra is a jazz group.

“The two genres manage pretty well together and a lot of them come from the same roots,” he said.

The headliner last performed in the Cape at the 2002 event.

“So they haven’t been here in awhile,” King said. “They are a crowd favorite.”

Last year, an estimated 2,500 people turned out for the festival.

“This event is one of the coolest ones we do – it’s a different genre compared to country and rock ‘n’ roll,” he said. “The venue is one of the most beautiful ones we have here in the Cape for concerts.”

Attendees are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and small backpacks with food.

Coolers are not permitted.

“We’ll have food vendors at the venue, also wine and adult beverages for purchase,” King said.

Free parking will be available, with shuttles taking people to the concert gate.

“From our general parking area, we have buses to move them over to the concert,” he said.

The shuttles will start running at 4 p.m. and will stop at 11 p.m.

As of Thursday, advance tickets and VIP tickets were still available. The VIP tickets come with VIP parking, a catered meal and adult beverages, along with tea, water and such. They cost $50 each.

General admission tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the gate.

To purchase tickets in advance, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (239) 573-3128. The tickets can be picked up or put at will call. People can also stop by the department at City Hall.

Organizers encourage the public to come out to the event.

“I think it’s neat to have another kind of music for our citizens and community to enjoy,” King said.
