Driver involved in crash released from hospital

A Cape Coral man has been released from the hospital after driving into a utility pole.

As of Tuesday, Mark Andrew Boyar, 47, 1223 N.E. 19th St., had been discharged from HealthPark Medical Center, where he was transported March 29 following the accident, according to officials.

Witnesses told the Cape police that a Ford F-150, driven by Boyar, was headed south on Del Prado Boulevard in the outside lane. As the truck entered the intersection at Hancock Bridge Parkway at 2:39 p.m., it veered right and drove onto the sidewalk, where the truck struck a metal utility box.

The Ford then struck a crosswalk pole and came to rest against the large, metal utility pole.

Several witnesses ran to Boyar and observed that he was having a medical episode, police reported. Boyar was helped from the truck and CPR was started. Lee County EMS responded to the scene.

Boyar was transported to a local hospital, then later taken by ambulance to HealthPark.

According to police, medical staff advised that he suffered a major medical event.

The accident did not appear to be alcohol or drug related.
