Insurance agency helping raise funds for boy with leukemia

3 min read

An insurance agency is helping a local non-profit raise funds for a Cape Coral boy with leukemia.

The Provisor Group, which has two offices in the Cape, has partnered with Friends and Neighbors of the Cape to help the family of Corbin Jensen, 7. The agency has pledged to donate $10 to the non-profit for each recommendation that it receives for an insurance quote – no purchase necessary.

“This is exactly why we created our Community Program – to come to the aid of local people going through their toughest times,” Edwin Pickett, owner of The Provisor Group, said via a statement.

“We hope everyone will rally around Corbin and his journey to good health,” he continued.

Jim Purin, co-founder of Friends and Neighbors of the Cape, explained that the non-profit provides food to those in need over the holidays through organizations like the Cape Coral Caring Center.

“The father of this boy (Corbin) has assisted us at times with our projects,” he said.

Last year, Corbin was diagnosed with an adult strain of leukemia.

“We decided we were going to try and do something for this child,” Purin said.

The non-profit organized a fundraiser at a Cape restaurant, which was deemed a success.

“Every penny went to the family to support them in their time of need,” he said.

The Cape Coral Caring Center even got on board to help out.

“They jumped right in and paid his electric bill for one month,” Purin said.

Corbin’s father, Nick Jensen, is the sole provider for his three children. Purin explained that Jensen has a small construction company and does interior work, but his son’s heath has taken priority as of late.

“He’s been pretty much out of work since this happened,” he said. “It’s 24/7 with his son.”

Corbin’s grandfather lends a hand as much as possible.

“A father raising three young boys, you can appreciate that,” Purin said.

As of Tuesday, Corbin was still undergoing treatment.

“He’s doing exceptionally well,” he said, adding that the family hopes Corbin will go into remission soon and that the doctors could stop the treatments in the coming month.

To support Corbin via an insurance quote, call The Provisor Group at 239-542-1117 or visit the agency’s website at: theprovisorgroup.com and click on the “Community Cause” link.

To donate directly to the cause, make checks out to the Friends and Neighbors of the Cape and mail them to 1728 S.W. 49th Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33914, with a notation for the “Corbin Jensen Fund.”

There has been discussion with Rum Runners about planning a fundraiser after season.
