2 min read

A Cape Coral motorcyclist was killed over the weekend when he hit a concrete light pole.

On Saturday, Dalton Earl Goodwin, 30, of 4017 S.E. Third Ave., was traveling south on Coronado Parkway in the outside lane on a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail. As he approached the intersection for Southeast Eighth Place, he failed to maneuver a bend in the road at 11:40 p.m.

The motorcycle crossed to the right, over the bicycle lane, and hit the curb. Goodwin rode along the curb for approximately 90 feet before driving up onto the curb, according to the Cape police.

The motorcycle then drove along the sidewalk and grass until it reached the intersection for Eighth Place, where the left side of the motorcycle collided into the light pole on the northeast corner.

Police reported that Goodwin was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the impact.

He came to a rest on Southeast Eighth Place, while the motorcycle rolled onto the lawn of Faith Presbyterian Church, at 4544 Coronado Parkway, where it tumbled and hit a concrete sign before coming to a stop.

Goodwin sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on scene.

He was not wearing a helmet or eye protection, according to police.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
