Red, White & Brew; Trolley event to kickstart the holiday
Beer fanatics with a taste for domestics can sample several at a holiday event this weekend.
Organized by the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations, the 5th Annual South Cape Red, White & Brew Trolley Event will take place on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. in the South Cape. Twelve locations will serve up a sample of a homeland brew, which will be paired with food samples.
“It is for the Fourth of July holiday,” Donna Meola, SCHEA’s executive director, said.
“It is all about patriotism,” she added.
Last year, approximately 1,000 people turned out for the event.
“We’re on track to be right about there this year,” Meola said on Thursday.
Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 day of; there are 1,000 total tickets.
“Tickets are still available,” she said.
Each attendee will receive a passport that they can get stamped at the venues. Once they have their entire passport stamped, they need to turn it in at any of the participating locations or to a trolley host.
The grand prize winner will receive a summer beach package.
“We have a beach cruiser bicycle from Budweiser, as well as a fire pit from Budweiser and a gift card to Rib City for barbecue,” Meola said.
“We also do have a photo contest for the most patriotic outfit,” she added.
The photo booth will be in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort.
Meola explained that all of the photos will be posted on Facebook for the public to vote on. The five to receive the most votes will make up the finalists’ pool, with the winner selected by SCHEA’s board.
The photo winner will win $100 cash.
As for the samples, they will be USA all the way.
“It’s all American fare and all American drinks,” she said.
The beers will range from regular domestics such as Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, Yuengling and Miller Lite, to more atypical ones like Rolling Rock, PB & Jealous, AmberBock and Yacht Club Cream Ale.
“They’re all different types of beer made in America,” Meola said.
As for food, the items will vary from cinnamon raisin or garlic beer bread, macaroni and cheese bites, pollo fundido and pigs in a blanket, to BBQ chicken bites, apple pie, corn dogs and beanie weenies.
“You’ll see all of the food is American fare, picnic type of food,” she said.
Tickets can be purchased at the venues or online at: www.eventbrite.com/.
Designated Driver tickets are also available for $10 in advance only at BackStreets Sports Bar. DD ticket holders get to enjoy the appetizers at each of the venues, as well as non-alcoholic drinks.
Check-in booths will be open from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Club Square and Big John Plaza. Late check-in will available after 7:30 in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort or outside of the Dixie Roadhouse.
Trivia games on the trolleys will provide another opportunity to win goodies and swag.
“The trolley hosts pass out prizes just for answering trivia questions,” Meola said.
She encouraged people to pick up their tickets.
“Come out and celebrate the holiday early with your friends in the South Cape,” Meola said.
