A standoff in southwest Cape Coral early Saturday morning ended without incident and one arrest.

Christopher Nathaniel Guzman, 30, of 2710 SW 27th St., was charged with aggravated assault (DV), use of fire arm while under the influence, obstruction and improper exhibition of firearm after he was persuaded to leave the home and surrender to police, a release from the Cape Coral Police Department states.

The incident began just before 5 a.m. when Cape Coral Police responded to a call of shots fired at the residence.

“The investigation revealed that at around 4:45 AM there was a domestic disturbance at the residence,” the release states. “The victim fled the house to a car in the driveway and the suspect, later identified as 30 year-old Christopher Nathaniel Guzman, followed with a handgun and began shooting in the air, threatening the victim.”

Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and began speaking with Guzman to have him surrender peacefully. He refused to exit the house so SWAT, Crisis Negotiators, Major Crimes Unit detectives, and Public Affairs responded to assist, officials said, adding that an alert was sent, notifying residents of the situation and road closures in the area.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., Guzman was persuaded to exit the house and surrender.

“MCU conducted a search warrant at the residence. At the completion of the MCU search warrant, it was determined that a Vice, Intelligence, and Narcotics (VIN) search warrant was also needed,” the release states. “Officers held the residence for several hours while detectives served the warrants and gathered evidence. The investigation is ongoing.”
