Trolley event sets sail Saturday
Residents and visitors have a chance to visit 10 ports of call without ever leaving Cape Coral.
Hosted by the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations, the Cruising the South Cape Trolley Event will take place on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. in the South Cape. The tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 day of and will include an appetizer and a drink sample at 10 participating locations.
“For returning trolley guests, this will be completely different,” Donna Meola, executive director of SCHEA, said. “For new people, they just need to get to the South Cape and see the fun we’re having.”
Each attendee will receive a passport that they can get stamped at the venues. Once they have their entire passport stamped, they need to turn it in at any of the participating locations or to a trolley host.
“The reason it’s ‘Cruising in the South Cape’ is the grand prize is a seven-day Caribbean cruise,” she said, adding that the cruise is for two people and all taxes and port fees are covered.
SCHEA partnered with Kristi Sharp, of Cruise Planners, to offer the package.
“We’re also having a photo contest for the best dressed cruise passenger or something cruise-related,” Meola said.
The photo booth will be set up in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort.
She explained that all of the photos will be posted on Facebook for the public to vote on. Those that receive the most votes will make up the finalists’ pool, with the winner picked by SCHEA’s board.
The photo contest winner will score $100 cash.
For the event, each participating location has been assigned a different port of call.
“Each location will be decorated like their port,” Meola said.
“We have Hawaii,” she added. “We have Italy.”
Some of the drink samples that will be featured at the ports are Cancun Breeze, Canelazo, Dixie Paloma, Ahoy Ale, Hawaiian Punch, Red Stripe, Key Lime Pie shot and Puerto Rican Passion Fruit.
Meola noted that Perk & Brew is serving up limoncello and meatballs for Italy.
“The Cigar Bar has an interesting drink,” she added.
Representing the Dominican Republic, it will have Santo Libre and homemade pork tostadas.
The other appetizers to be featured will be chicken flauta, empanadas, Southwestern chicken tornadoes, lime popcorn, pineapple chicken tenders, coconut shrimp, fried pork chunks and Hawaiian skewers.
“The Tiki Bar (Bar & Grill) will even have fire dancers,” Meola said, adding that it is Hawaii.
She noted that photos of the samples can be found on SCHEA’s’ Facebook page.
There are 1,200 tickets available for the event.
“We do still have tickets,” Meola said on Wednesday.

Designated Driver tickets are also available for $20 in advance only at BackStreets Sports Bar. DD ticket holders get to enjoy the appetizers at each of the venues, as well as non-alcoholic drinks.
Check-in booths will be open from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Club Square and Big John Plaza. Late check-in will available after 7:30 in the lobby of the Dolphin Key Resort or outside of the Dixie Roadhouse.
“At check-in, we’re giving away string backpacks with coupons from local retailers,” she said.
Attendees will also receive a $100 off coupon for a cruise booked through Cruise Planners.
Trivia games on the trolleys will provide another shot at winning goodies and swag.
“The trolley hosts and hostesses will be dressed as tourists,” Meola said.
