In honor of Marc Scott: Community marks memory of businessman with fundraiser

2 min read

The family of Marc Scott, who lost his life in a small plane crash near Page Field on June 24, has established a fundraising drive online to honor his memory.

“(Marc) is a great person with a wonderful loving family,” said Anthony Greco Jr. “He has a nephew and two godsons that are the joys of his life. In honor of his memory, his family has set up a fund to support the boys’ future educational needs.”

The fundraising goal is set at $25,000. As of noon Thursday, more than $10,500 had been donated.

Scott, 37, an employee at AdccuData Integrated Marketing in Cape Coral, and Greco, 55, vice president of ACRA Electric, were members of the Fort Myers Flying Club and Cape Coral residents. Greco was piloting the plane and survived when it crashed into a vacant daycare building at Chico’s on Metro Parkway in Fort Myers.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated by the National Traffic Safety Board Eastern Regional Office. A preliminary investigation report was released by the agency on Tuesday.

Investigators wrote that Greco told them he saw no anomalies in his preflight inspection of the single-engine Piper PA-28 plane and no water or debris was found in fuel samples. As he lifted off the runway he said he felt a loss of engine power and the RPMs decreased rapidly.

With the engine continuing to lose power Greco told investigators he turned to line up with the street to make an emergency landing, but a wing contacted a tree sending it into the building.

The flying club had three planes available for use to its 150 members, about 60 of whom are pilots, according to club president Mike Jackson. As a precaution, the club grounded its remaining two planes for thorough inspection – a Cessna 172 and a Cessna 182S – after the crash.
