Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village: Event center construction right on schedule
Construction on the new event center at the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village has experienced no delays and is on schedule for completion at the end of November.
“We are right on point for completion, but we won’t have the grand opening of the ballroom until January,” said Stefanie Eakin, resort Marketing & Sales manager. “We have many events booked for 2018 with a mix of local and out-of-state groups. We also are offering pre-construction savings through Dec. 31 for events booked in 2018 and beyond.”
The outer shell of the 30,000 square-foot building is nearly completed with drywall installation going on inside, Eakin said. Westin officially named the facility The Tarpon Point Ballroom with a capacity for up to 1,400 guests or a maximum banquet round-table seating for 840.
“The indoor space includes the 12,250 square-foot ballroom which can be divided into six distinct meeting spaces, or a combination,” said Eakin. “There also is an expansive outdoor terrace that overlooks the estuary. When the facility is completed we will have 13 meeting rooms available on the Westin property.”
Recently, the resort began renovating some of its suites to have an additional 30 guest rooms and bring the total number of guest rooms up to 293. The conversion of existing two-bedroom suites into one-bedroom units is expected to be completed at the same time as the meeting and event center addition.
“When everything is done there will be 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space available,” said Eakin.
City Council approved amendments to the $15 million project’s development plan at its June 13, 2016, meeting and ground was broken soon after that. One amendment removed the responsibility from the project to repave Pelican Boulevard from the resort property to Cape Coral Parkway. The city now has an agreement with Lee County to help fund the repaving when the event center is completed.
The ballroom project is projected to create approximately 33 new full-time jobs at the resort and will generate an estimated $100,000 in additional bed tax money. It is estimated the additional space will generate $22,735 in property tax revenue while adding a total economic benefit to the region of more than $33.4 million in the first three years of operation.
The pre-construction savings offers for event bookings include a discount on room nights, bonus Starpoints earnings, and complimentary room upgrades. For more details visit www.westincapecoral.com
