Cape man sentenced to 10 years in prison for home invasion robbery
A Cape Coral man has been sentenced to prison in connection to a home invasion robbery.
Cameron Patrick Michael Duffy, 21, pleaded guilty on Monday to robbery residence home invasion with a firearm or other deadly weapon and burglary while armed, according to court documents.
As a result, he was sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
On Jan. 17, a man reported that two men had entered his apartment, at 4802 Tudor Drive, Apt. 204, through the rear door and robbed him at gunpoint, according to the police. They threatened to kill him.
One of suspects was wearing a mask with a “skeleton teeth” print on it.
On March 1, Duffy’s vehicle was stopped during a traffic stop and a mask with a similar print was found. The victim was shown the mask and he positively identified it as the mask worn by the suspect. Police reported that evidence later located on Duffy’s phone confirmed his involved in the robbery.
Duffy was charged in May at the Lee County Jail, where he was already in custody.
“Special thanks to patrol and K-9, who assisted greatly to include a traffic stop several days after the robbery,” Sgt. Paul Kaye, of the CCPD’s Major Crimes Unit, said in a prepared statement on Monday.
“They stopped a vehicle occupied by Mr. Duffy and had the forethought to photograph a mask located in the back seat,” he said. “This was a key piece of evidence in the case.”
Attorney Sean O’Halloran represented Duffy. He did not return a message on Tuesday seeking comment.
Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos handled the case.
As of Tuesday, the second suspect in the robbery was still awaiting trial.
Descota Shane Hillard, 19, of 1100 N.E. 19th Terrace, was arrested and charged on May 26 with robbery residence home invasion with a firearm or other deadly weapon and burglary while armed.
Cape police established probable cause for the arrest of Hillard, according to officials.
The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force located him and took him into custody.
Hillard has court appearance set for Sept. 27.
