Council OKs agreement with company to construct water pipeline
Without an open discussion during Monday’s meeting, City Council approved an agreement with Tetra Tech to construct the necessary pipeline to deliver additional reusable water for irrigation purposes to complete an agreement with the Florida Government Utility Authority.
The city’s current connection to the FGUA source is inadequate and requires the improvements to transmit the additional water to the city’s distribution system in Northeast Cape. Staff approved a contract for nearly $1.4 million plus a 10 percent contingency to fund the project through the Utilities Department.
FGUA and the city drew up an interlocal agreement on the project back in February. The contract with Tetra Tech includes professional engineering, design services and construction management. Tetra Tech won the bidding over four other firms.
The project was part of Monday’s consent agenda items.
A water main break in the 3300 block of Country Club Boulevard required council to approve an emergency purchase order to cover the cost of repairs that included repaving a portion of the roadway damaged by the break for $51,330.
Repairs were completed in just a few days to reopen the road to traffic.
Council approved a Planned Development Project request to subdivide a 9.53-acre parcel at 3333 Old Burnt Store Road called Shamrock Pines into three parcels to build three single-family homes along with conservation tracts.
The property, designated for mixed use with an agricultural zoning, will be developed with a retention pond and two conservation tracts for wetlands.
Council appointed Eric Urban as a first-time member of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee Monday night and approved reappointing board members Bonnie Schnell and John McBrearty to an additional term to fill three of the four vacancies.
Council also filled one of two vacancies on its Construction Regulation Board by appointing Michael Makedonski to his first two-year term. A second vacancy was not filled because the remaining applicant did not respond to staff’s attempts to contact him and will begin a search for more applications.
Council’s next regular meeting is Mon-day, Aug. 7, in Council Chambers.
