Some Good Samaritans helped Cape Coral officers nab an alleged purse-snatcher Tuesday night.

Two witnesses caught and held Marshall Z. Barker, 24, of Cape Coral after he reportedly stole a purse from a woman’s shopping cart at the Publix at 1603 Cape Coral Parkway West and then attempted to flee, according to a release from the Cape Coral Police Department.

The victim noticed the theft, “caught and grabbed Barker and her purse, trying to wrestle it back from him,” police said.

Barker then let go of the purse after a brief struggle and fled on foot with the two witnesses in pursuit, the release states, adding, the witnesses subdued him at the Circle K and held him for police.

Barker was taken into custody and charged with robbery by sudden snatching, a felony, and was transported to Lee County Jail.

Bond was set at $10,000. He remained in custody Wednesday afternoon.
