Events have been canceled for the remainder of the week and schools will be closed Thursday and Friday as Lee County braced for possible impacts from Hurricane Irma.

“In an abundance of caution, and to allow our students, parents and employees plenty of time to prepare for the effects of Hurricane Irma, the Lee County School District is cancelling ALL after school activities, including clubs, athletics and school-based after school care programs on Wednesday, September 6th,” a statement posted to the School District of Lee County website states. “We are also closing schools and district offices on Thursday, September 7th and Friday, September 8th.”

The district “continues to work closely with Lee County Emergency Management Officials to closely monitor the movement and potential impacts of the storm,” the release states, adding a decision regarding Monday, Sept. 11, will be made later this week or over the weekend.
