Food and water points of distribution in Lee County opening now

Residents of Lee County who have been affected by Hurricane Irma can go to one of three points of distribution to receive food and water. These will be drive-up distribution locations, where the National Guard will be handing out MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat) and water.

The points of distribution are opening today from 4 to 7 p.m. at these locations; then on Thursday these locations will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

Villas Elementary

Fort Myers

Flea Masters Flea Market

4135 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd

Fort Myers

Lehigh Acres Fire Station 1

1000 Joel Blvd.

More sites will be announced and opened Thursday in various areas. Another announcement will be forthcoming from Lee County Emergency Management.

In addition, the National Guard is making its way into communities in Lehigh and the City of Fort Myers to pass out food and water to those who are isolated.

There are several agencies also assisting with aid in the area. Lee County Human & Veteran Services, United Way, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Harry Chapin Food Bank, Catholic Charities and more. For a full list of organizations, go to www.unitedwaylee.org.
