North Fort Myers Library to move to temporary location rescheduled

The planned move of the North Fort Myers Library to its temporary location has been rescheduled from Sept. 9, 10 and 11 to Sept. 23, 24 and 25 due to the approach of Hurricane Irma and the uncertainty of its path.

The move is in preparation for the construction of the new North Fort Myers Library. The existing library will move to a temporary location nearby at 50 Pine Island Road North in North Fort Myers. The current library will close at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 and reopen in the temporary facility at noon Tuesday, Sept. 26. Materials may be returned to the book drop at the temporary location beginning 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.

For the period of construction, the temporary site will offer the basic services: public computers, holds pickup, new materials, popular materials (books & DVDs), youth programming area and reference services. The temporary location hours will be: Sunday and Monday- closed, Tuesday- noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday-10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Construction of the new library will begin after demolition of the current facility. The new library will be approximately 25,000 square feet and is expected to open in the summer of 2019. The estimated cost is of the project is $12.5 million from existing library fund balances.
