DISTRICT ONE DISTRICTWIDE ROADWATCH REPORT #10 FOR WEEK MARCH 5

District One is 12 counties: Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, Polk and Sarasota

Bartow — This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

As a reminder, travelers can visit FL511.com or dial “511” from their phone to learn about traffic conditions on major roadways across the state.

If you know before you go, you can plan accordingly and save time and money.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

US 41 from Midway Boulevard to Paulson Drive: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside northbound closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, while crews perform geotechnical work.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Payne Street to Rio Villa Drive: Construction project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours while crews resurface the roadway, construct curb, gutter, sidewalk drainage, signage, and signalization improvements.

• Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures from Aqui Esta Drive to Payne Street during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays while crews perform earthwork, construct curb and gutter, turn lanes, and install sidewalk in the median.

Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is late fall 2023.

COLLIER COUNTY

I-75 from the Toll Booth to Collier Boulevard: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct guardrail.

• Motorists should expect northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is late summer 2023.

I-75 from mile marker 76 to the mile marker 100/toll plaza: Construction project: Crews will widen and resurface the roadway as well as construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

I-75 from the Broward County line to the east of the bridge over Wildlife Crossing #15: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Davis Boulevard to Courthouse Shadows: Construction project: Improvements include adding mid-block crossings and pedestrian signals, milling and resurfacing, and making sidewalk repairs within the project limits. Motorists should expect lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours. Expected completion is late spring 2023.

US 41 from 10th Street North to 9th Street North: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. A temporary traffic signal will be installed during construction. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 from Tomato Road to CR 92 Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a temporary bypass road. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 at the Treviso Bay Entrance east of Johns Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews make turn lane modifications. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.

US 41 from Gordon Street to Bamboo Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 84/Davis Boulevard from Ospreys Landing to West Crown Point Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews replace underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

DESOTO COUNTY

SR 70 over Joshua Creek Bridge: Construction project: Crews will be making repairs to the bridge, including spall repairs to substructure and superstructure, non-structural pile jackets and slope protection repairs. There is a possibility of lane closures on SR 70 over the Joshua Creek Bridge during construction. Estimated completion is spring 2023.

GLADES COUNTY

US 27 at SR 29: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 27 and SR 29 updating traffic signals, milling, and resurfacing, shoulder treatments, adding curb and rumble strips and lighting near the intersection. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures near the intersection.

• Motorists should expect intermittent daily lane closures on US 27 and SR 29 near the intersection.

Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is February 2023.

US 27 at SR 29: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 27 and SR 29 updating traffic signals, milling, and resurfacing, shoulder treatments, adding curb and rumble strips and lighting near the intersection. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures near the intersection.

• Motorists should expect the right turn lane off US 27 onto SR 29 to be closed while crews work in the area. Please follow signage.

• Motorists should expect intermittent daily lane closures on US 27 and SR 29 near the intersection.

Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is February 2023.

US 27 from south of Hendry County line to north of Old US 27: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27. The project includes resurfacing US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27, outside shoulder widening on southbound US 27 at Old US 27, guardrail replacement and installation of signing and pavement markings. During construction there may be daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27

• Motorists should expect northbound and southbound single daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27.

Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is spring 2023.

SR 78 Sidewalks at Various Locations: Construction project: Crews will be installing five-foot sidewalks with a retaining wall along the south side of SR 78 from Access Road to Ben Street and from Chobee Street to Lake Drive and from Linda Road to Buckhead Ridge RV & Boat Storage. Other improvements include signing and pavement markings and drainage improvements. During construction daytime lane closures will occur on SR 78.

• Road closure: Beginning Monday, March 6, Lake Drive off SR 78 will be closed at the intersection of SR 78 and Lake Drive. Crews will be placing a drainage pipe under the road and a detour will be in place for approximately four weeks. Please follow detour signs and use caution in the area.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is spring 2023.

LEE COUNTY

Sanibel Causeway Emergency Restoration: As a part of the Emergency Restoration of the Sanibel Causeway, crews continue work on McGregor Boulevard and the Sanibel Causeway from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Island. Westbound McGregor Boulevard has been reduced to one lane approaching and through the toll plaza. Crews continue earthwork on the causeway islands. MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 20 MPH.

• Crews continue driving sheet pile around the causeway islands.

• The causeway islands surrounding the temporary roadway are an active work zone and are currently closed for public access.

• Bicyclists are encouraged to utilize another mode of transportation to travel the causeway.

• Pedestrians are not permitted on the Sanibel Causeway.

Many oversized vehicles are crossing the causeway to assist with recovery efforts on the island. Please be patient as travel may be slower than usual. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway.

I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (mile marker 136): Construction project: Crews begin construction on the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. Other improvements along Colonial Boulevard include a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection. I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound offramp at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on I-75 and the on and off ramps at SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of construction.

• Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during the nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway through the duration of the project. The expected completion date is mid-2024.

I-75 northbound/southbound off-ramp at Alico Road: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

I-75 northbound/southbound off-ramp at Corkscrew Road: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 865/Six Mile Cypress at US 41/Tamiami Trail: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 865/Six Mile Cypress at Wal-Mart/Home Depot: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 865/Six Mile Cypress at SR 739/Metro Parkway: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 739/Michael G. Rippe Parkway at US 41/Tamiami Trail: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 739/Michael G. Rippe Parkway Briarcliff Road: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41/Tamiami Trail at Estero Parkway/Terracap Way: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane: Construction project: Crews are constructing a sidewalk on the west side of US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

US 41 at various locations: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect shoulder closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews repair sidewalk. Motorists should use caution as crews work within the shoulder.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Construction project: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing medians on US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82.

• Expect Edison Avenue closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

• Expect Crawford Street closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

• Expect Hoople Street closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

• Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.

• Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project.

Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments. Each segment will have most of the construction completed prior to moving to the next segment. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is completed, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue/US 41. The expected project completion is late 2023.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from SR 82/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the Caloosahatchee River: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews perform drainage work. Motorists should use caution as crews work near or in the roadway.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Williams Road to Corkscrew Road: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during daytime hours while repair sidewalk. Motorists should use caution as crews work near or in the roadway.

US 41 from Bonita Beach Road to Pondella Road: Construction project: Crews will be retrofitting the lighting systems at the following intersections along US 41: Bonita Beach Road, Shopping Center Entrance, West Terry Street, South Bay Drive, Bernwood Parkway, Timberwilde Drive, Pelican Landing Parkway, Sanibel Boulevard, Constitution Boulevard, Bell Tower Road, Big Pine Way, Crystal Drive, Palm Drive, Beacon Manor Drive, South Airport Road, Boy Scout Drive, Sam’s Plaza, North Airport Road, North Key Drive, Hancock Bridge Parkway, and Pondella Road. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work alongside the roadway. Estimated project completion is spring 2023.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Sunrise Boulevard to Woodland Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays while crews replace utilities near the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Pine Ridge Road to Lake McGregor Drive: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews install utility poles. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Colonial Boulevard to College Parkway: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews remove trees. Motorists should use caution while crews work near the roadway.

SR 739/Evans Avenue from SR 82/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the Caloosahatchee River: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews perform drainage work. Motorists should use caution as crews work near or in the roadway.

SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from Fowler Street to Evans Avenue: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews perform drainage work. Motorists should use caution as crews work near or in the roadway.

SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from SR 884/Colonial Boulevard to Wallace Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside eastbound lane closures while crews store debris near the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 80/Palm Beach Boulevard from Tarpon Street to Superior Street: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect eastbound and westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews repair asphalt. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.

SR 78/Pine Island Road from SW 3rd Place to 419th SW: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures while crews construct a community entrance near the roadway. Crews will be temporarily shortening the existing turn lane to perform construction activities. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 31/Babcock Ranch Road from Shirley Lane to Greenway Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during daytime hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews construct driveways in the area. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges.  Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 82, SR 739): Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect shoulder closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews clean and repair ditch slopes. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway shoulder area.
