B. Pat O’Rourke to sponsor adoptions at GCHS Aug. 19
B. Pat O’Rourke, with assistance from the United Way, is stepping up big time for the Gulf Coast Humane Society’s shelter animals by paying for all adoption fees on Saturday, Aug. 19, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at 2010 Arcadia St. in Fort Myers.
Currently, GCHS is caring for over 200 shelter animals and with adoption numbers suffering through 2023, as well as owner surrenders up, the B. Pat O’Rourke Adoption Day Aug. 19 could be an important boost for the shelter.
“We appreciate B. Pat for his love of animals and his support of GCHS, as well as helping our shelter animals find homes by sponsoring the adoption fees,” said GCHS Executive Director Gary Willoughby.
B. Pat has been a big supporter of GCHS throughout the years, and the shelter also is a United Way Agency.
GCHS has seen an increase in shelter animals’ length of stay, especially with the larger size dogs. Dogs such as Marshall, who has surpassed over 200 days at the shelter, sees potential adopters walk past his kennel each day. Marshall is a calm and loyal 3-year-old American Staffordshire who doesn’t have many meet and greets, despite loving people companionship.
GCHS has been fortunate to have great support from the community, such as B. Pat and the United Way. That support has helped GCHS be a part of the community for the last 76 years.
All adoptions on Aug. 19, will be sponsored by B. Pat O’Rourke – with an approved adoption application – and includes puppies, kittens, adult dogs and cats and specialty breeds.
Potential adopters with other pets in the home, should bring an updated rabies vaccine certificate.
