Lee County man found guilty of second degree murder in 2022 shooting of 16-year-old

Syncere Trice, a South Fort Myers High School student and football player, was found guilty of second degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of 16-year-old De’Mari Jackson.
According to the state attorney’s office, in January 2022, the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call about a shooting on Franklin Street in Southward Village. They found Jackson had been shot near the scene of a fight between a group of teenage girls. It was determined that someone in the crowd pulled out a gun and fired. Jackson stepped in front another group of girls he had been talking to, protecting them.
An investigation led to identifying Trice as the shooter, and he was arrested.
Trice was 19 years old at the time of the shooting.
Trice’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
