Lee County Clerk Kevin Karnes is hosting a free online class on how to file a domestic violence injunction for protection with the courts.

The webinar will be held from 2-3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, via Zoom.

An injunction for protection is a court order requiring an individual to stay away from another and not contact them. It is commonly used in domestic violence cases.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims through education and awareness. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

In this online class, participants will learn the process associated with filing an injunction for protection case with the courts.

This includes:

• General injunction for protection information

• The various types of injunction cases

• Required forms & information

• How to electronically file an injunction

• Available contacts & resources

The class is free, but participants are required to register at leeclerk.org/seminar.

The webinar is being hosted in partnership with Abuse Counseling and Treatment, which is a private, not-for-profit agency committed to serving victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

This class is part of the “How To” series provided by the Lee Clerk’s office to educate the community about all of the resources available to them. Recorded tutorials of past “How To” classes are available at lee clerk.org/howto.
