Neighborhood Watch of Cape Coral to meet Tuesday
Citizens concerned about their neighborhood may benefit from an upcoming meeting.
The Neighborhood Watch of Cape Coral will host its third quarterly meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Third Floor Training Room at the Cape Coral Police Department. There will be a general business meeting, following by a presentation by a representative with Lee County Domestic Animal Services.
“They’re going to talk about varying things they get complaints on most often,” Steve Powley, president of the board of directors for the Neighborhood Watch of Cape Coral, said on Wednesday.
The speaker will also offer suggestions on how to handle situations, such as stray animals.
“Everyone knows Cape Coral has a leash law,” he said. “But what do you do? Who do you call?”
Powley explained that animal-related concerns were brought up at past meetings.
“And it was a hot issue with one of our board members,” Powley said.
At the last quarterly meeting, a guest speaker from Fifth Third Bank spoke on identification theft and fraud protection. At the meetings, attendees brainstorm on potential speakers and topics of interest.
There is also an opportunity at each meeting to discuss individual neighborhood concerns with members of the Cape police. The CCPD’s four district resource coordinators will be on hand.
“People will come with issues that are important to them,” he said.
“At the very least, we can guide them in the right direction,” Powley added.
Typically, 50 to 60 people attend the meetings.
Topics of discussion can range from crime prevention presentations from the CCPD on things like vandalism, burglaries and speeding, to quality of life issues, neighborhood disputes and more.
