November is National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Month, and Lee County Homeless Coalition, in partnership with Lee County Human & Veteran Services, wants to bring awareness to the needs of the hungry and homeless in our community. Homelessness is increasing in Lee County; primarily due to an ongoing housing crisis, soaring rents and the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

During this month, Lee County Homeless Coalition encourages residents to donate non-perishable food or clothing to nonprofit member agencies serving homeless families and individuals in Lee County, volunteer to serve meals at Lee County meal sites, offer pro-bono professional services to provide aid to the homeless, ask employers or schools to host or sponsor a fundraising event, or donate funds to a nonprofit member agency, food pantry or “FPL’s Care to Share” program.

Together Lee, we can make a difference.

The Lee County Homeless Coalition is an advocacy group made up of individual stakeholders and agencies whose mission is to advocate, educate and promote awareness of obstacles facing the homeless through community collaboration, planning, and implementation of solutions. The Coalition represents the Continuum of Care, a local planning body that coordinates housing and human services funding for homeless families and individuals. The objective of the Continuum of Care is to provide quality services, programs, and resources through coordination with community agencies to improve the quality of life for the homeless.
