Antonio Rivera, 79, of Cape Coral died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the Cape Coral Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1930, in Puerto Rico, a child of Pedro and Tomasa (Santiago) Rivera.

A resident of Cape Coral for the past nine years, he formerly lived in North Fort Myers, Puerto Rico and Paterson, N.J. Mr. Rivera owned and operated restaurants in Paterson, N.J., and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He was the husband of the late Virginia (Arroyo) Rivera, who died in 1998.

He is survived by his son, Anthony (Evelyn) Rivera of North Fort Myers; three grandchildren, Suzette, Anthony Jr. and Sasha Rivera; his brothers, Gilbert (Rosa) Rivera and Hiram (Angie) Rivera, all of Puerto Rico; and his sisters, Julia Pedraja, Armelis (Jose) Dessus and Maria (Osvaldo) Morrobel, all of Cape Coral.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gina Rivera, Fana Rivera, Ana Rivera and Aurea Rivera.

A Funeral Service will be conducted today, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Affordable and Trusted Cremation Center at the Horizon Funeral Home, 1605 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, with the Rev. Thomas Palko, OSFS, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the donor’s favorite charity. Burial will follow at the Coral Ridge Memorial Park, Cape Coral.
