Goodwill mourns loss of Vice President Bob Haenggi

It is with great sadness that Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida announced the passing of Robert L. “Bob” Haenggi, the agency s Vice President of Career Development Services. Haenggi died unexpectedly on Friday, May 20.

During his 3 1/2 years in Southwest Florida, Haenggi headed Goodwill’s mission services efforts. In that time, Goodwill saw its largest growth in mission services in the agency’s history. Last year, the agency served more than 16,000 individuals with disabilities and other disadvantages.

“Haenggi was with the organization for a relatively short time, but he created an enormous impact here in Southwest Florida,” said Tom Feurig, Goodwill’s President/CEO. “The measure of someone’s true worth isn’t just in numbers, but in the impact and direction that he brought to the organization. That part is immeasurable.”

Feurig continued, “Our best tribute to him is to make sure that we can build upon the base that he brought here.”

Prior to his tenure in Southwest Florida, Haenggi served as vice president of Human Services and Workforce Development at Goodwill Industries of western New York. He was also a graduate of Goodwill Industries International’s Senior Executive Training program.

Haenggi’s commitment to helping people with disabilities and disadvantages extended beyond his career with Goodwill. He served as vice chair of the Mayor’s Alliance board of directors, and was also a board member of HOPE Clubhouse of Southwest Florida and the Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy charter school. Locally, he was also a member of the Lee County Homeless Coalition and the Rotary Club of Cape Coral GoldCoast.

Haenggi shared his nonprofit expertise with the Lee County Chamber of Commerce, as part of its grant review committee. His human services experience was utilized nationwide by with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, for which he was a surveyor.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Haenggi served during the Vietnam War. He graduated with honors from Hilbert College (Hamburg, N.Y.) and studied business administration at Daemen College (Amherst, N.Y.).
