Virginia (Ginny) VanCleve Cassell

Virginia (Ginny) VanCleve Cassell died Jan. 17, 2012.

A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and teacher, she was born in 1931 in Roanoke, Va., and raised in Lynchburg, Va. She was a graduate of EC Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va., and Converse College, S.C., and ending with her master’s degree.

She was a lifelong educator in Roanoke, Va., and North Fort Myers High School, where she rose to the prestigious position of dean of students. She and her husband, John, moved to Cape Coral in 1966 where they lived for 42 years raising two daughters. They were avid sports fans with season tickets to the Boston Red Sox Spring Training games, and regularly attended Miami Dolphin football games. She was also very active as a volunteer coach in many sports and school-related activities. After her husband’s death in 2008, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she established many new friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ives VanCleve and Kathryn Hardin VanCleve Perrow; and her husband, John William Cassell.

She is survived by daughters, Sandra L. Cassell-Glaser, Deborah Anne Cassell-Kelly (Chris) of Cape Coral; stepson, John Michael Cassell (Pamela) of Salem, Va.; sister, Charlee Hoyt of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephen M. Glaser (Karla) of Chicago, Ben Cassell of Salem, Va., Christopher D. Kelly II and Clayton A. Kelly of Cape Coral; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Emma, Ava Glaser of Chicago; and nephews, Dean C. and Jason A. Hoyt of Minnesota.

Her internment is at Coral Ridge Cemetery in Cape Coral, where she was laid to rest with her husband of 52 years.

She is loved by all whose lives she touched and will be dearly missed. Rest in peace as you go with God after a life well spent.
