Henry Albert Shirley

Henry Albert Shirley, 72, a lifelong Lee County resident, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Fort Myers. He was born May 12, 1942 in Tampa, to Bill and Rose Shirley, now deceased.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and a devoted witness of God’s word. He worked for the phone company for 37 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His friends and family were often entertained by his unique sense of humor. In his retirement, he enjoyed creating beautifully detailed model boats all of which were lovingly created to spread God’s word.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Josephine Shirley of Fort Myers; seven children, Henry Shirley Jr. of Fort Myers Beach, Theresa Jones (Glen) of Fort Myers, Selena Beatty of Kansas, Shane Shirley (Lydia Aulen) of North Fort Myers, Mary Ann Bolt (James) of Branson, Mo., Lorraine Burt (Leo) of Fort Myers and Christine Piper (Douglas) of Alva, Fla.; three siblings, Billy Shirley (Janet) of Tennessee, Janice Darner of Pine Island and Dolores Goethie of North Fort Myers; as well as 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Errico; a granddaughter, Debbie Jarrell; and a brother, Bobby Shirley.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Mullins Memorial, 3645 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, with Father Anthony Hewitt officiating.
