Scholarship reminder

To the editor:

Your story on the Agape Christian Academy is a great reminder that Florida has offered a private learning option for low-income children for eight years now. In Lee County, 27 different private schools are eligible to serve children under the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship. Across the state, more than 23,000 low-income students in about 1,000 schools took advantage of the scholarship this past year, and schools such as Agape are still enrolling for the fall. The scholarship is available to K-12 students whose household income meets the threshold for free and reduced lunch in public schools, and it is worth up to $3,950 a year.
