‘Talking’ crosswalks needed

1 min read

To the editor:

This letter is regarding your recent article on “White Cane Day” printed on October 21, 2009.

The article on White Cane Day was very informative. As a newcomer to Florida, I was shocked that there is nothing stated about what white canes mean in your state’s driving manuals.

I always thought it was common courtesy to “yield to pedestrians.”

I’m also shocked that there are no “talking” crosswalk signals at any of the intersections in North Fort Myers where the event took place.

I feel this special type of equipment would be a great addition for those with visual disabilities.
