Haste makes waste

To the editor:

In a recent OPED article my opening line was “I have never seen any good whatsoever come out of the government phenomenon called fast tracking.” A case in point is the county return of swine flu vaccines. Sanofi-Aventis is voluntarily recalling 800,000 doses of the H1N1 pediatric Swine Flu vaccine for ages 6 months to 35 months in prefilled syringes. Nasal spray vaccine injected into children is a live H1N1 Swine Flu virus. Many pediatric doctors in our own Lee, Charlotte and Collier County area will not use this live vaccine.

However, Big Pharma owns our Congress and they make millions if not billions selling cheap vaccines to the ill-informed populous, funded by the U.S. taxpayers. What is ironic is that at this same time Congress refuses to allow importation of some less expensive generic drugs from Canada and other countries, even though they were originally processed or manufactured in the United States. We are a green country all right, only instead of energy efficient green, it’s payola green.
