Democracy in danger
To the editor:
The single largest question we are faced with today is:is the president and the Congress evil or stupid? Here are the facts, you make the call.
We were promised that bills, items voted on by Congress, would not contain “earmarks” (the dirty dealings used to secure “yes” votes) The health care bill contains 2,000 “earmarks.”
We were promised, by President Obama and others, that Congressional hearings on health care and other issues would be televised and open for public scrutiny. Factually, there have been secret meetings, with only selective people involved and decisions and deals have been made without citizen in put or citizen representation.
Back door deals have been made, in order to secure “yes” votes for health care resulting in the majority of Americans receiving unequal benefits, while unprincipled senators commit scurrilous acts.
A terrorist succeeds in boarding an airliner with a bomb, and only a miracle saves the plane along with more than 300 passengers. The homeland security czar says “the system worked” and, for this, she is not immediately fired. No sane or sober person could have made this outrageous comment.
A terrorist kills Americans at Fort Hood, during an uncalled for wild attack, and officials admit that they knew he was dangerous but did not act because they were concerned about violating his rights.
Gitmo prisoners, terrorists who have sworn to kill Americans, have been released and are now leading the charge against us.
The top anti-terrorism official, on a skiing vacation, when told of the Christmas bomb scare miracle remained for days enjoying the vacation, and ignoring the safety of the American people. He has still not been fired.
Officials on the ground, while the plane was in the air admit to knowing that the dangerous nut was on the plane and chose not to tell the pilot. More strange behavior.
The economy remains in shambles. The national debt is out of control and will serve to create havoc for generations to come. Real estate values continue to decline. The job market is in turmoil, with unemployment at historic levels. And, in spite of all this thousands of over paid government employees have received raises.
According to Billy Graham: “Those entrusted with leadership bear a special responsibility to uphold the highest standards of moral and ethical conduct, they are role models and have the greatest need for personal integrity.” Is it any wonder then that approval ratings for Congress has dipped to its lowest level and the president has lost valuable credibility. If we are to save the nation, every senator who votes for any bill with unscrupulous “earmarks,” or who votes yes for any bill created behind closed doors, must be voted out… It is a crooked activity and any public official who, for any reason, supports dishonest deal making should not be representing American people.
All Congress people and President Obama must be put on notice that we are fed up, get your act together, careful what you vote for or, at our earliest opportunity you will be voted out of office. Stop taking advantage of the trust we have placed in you.
