Keep at-large voting rights

2 min read

To the editor:

An editorial in the regional daily newspaper promoting a single-member voting district for Lee County Commissioners is blatantly racist, anti-white, anti-constitutional, anti-middle-class and nothing more than socialist propaganda. Single-member districts are a fraud perpetrated on the taxpayers of Lee County by that paper and one agenda driven, political action committee.

If, through media and special interest manipulation, single member districts were to come about you would not be able to vote for four of the five commission seats. This is taxation without representation. Didn’t we as American patriots fight this same fight over 200 years ago? This backdoor attempt to defrock the citizens of Lee County of 80 percent of their vote for county commissioners is diabolically clever and insane.

The County Charter Committee even failed to place the single-member district issue on the ballot and now a few malcontents would like to circumvent the normal rules and procedures for their own self-serving reasons. As a veteran, I zealously guard my constitutional ballot access right which I and all of my fellow military fought for I recently checked with the Lee County Elections Office and I have voted in every election in Lee County since my residency in 1996. That includes municipal, county, state and federal elections.

Please don’t steal my beloved ballot access from me.
