Gov. Crist for the people again
To the editor:
Gov. Crist by his veto of the Senate Bill No. 6, the legislation attacking school teachers, and indeed the entire school system, has demonstrated once again his unique ability to separate the wheat from the chaff and stand tall for the people. This bill was another example of the lawmakers simply not getting it. Legislators are not sent to Tallahassee to babble and conduct themselves as pompous arrogant jerks. The job is to represent the people, not the party, and always vote on the side of the majority; anything short of this reflects an absolute violation of the public trust. Fortunately Florida is blessed with Charlie Crist, “the people’s Governor,” and a bill that can only be characterized as an abomination, was turned away before serious damage to the school system could be done. This bill was poorly written, it was rushed through the legislature like a fast food order, and it was a shameful display of dumb politics. I believe that merit-based pay is a swell idea, I think it would serve a wonderful purpose and I feel that by saying this I am reflecting the feelings of Floridians across the state. No, not for teachers though, teachers are over worked, under paid, and deserving of our respect, admiration, and appreciation. Merit pay, based on performance, should be implemented for the pin-headed legislators who seem to think that voting along party lines, or ignoring the will of the majority, or attacking a governor, a good and decent man, who is fighting for the people, is doing the job. Shame on any Republican or Democrat who is not applauding Charlie Crist for saving Florida’s education system. And, absolutely, let’s have a vote on merit pay, based on performance, for legislators. Charlie Crist will make a great United States Senator.
