Political parties an outdated concept
To the editor:
Why do we need political parties? Why not have all candidates running as independents, declaring their own platforms, clearly spelling out what they will work for, and not beholding to power hungry weasels who can’t make it on their own and enjoy dictating policy, practice, and procedures to candidates who are too weak to think on their own or battle the bullies. The parties add absolutely nothing worthwhile to the process and, instead, add only chaos and controversy to a system that is desperately in need of change. Without the party intrusion we would eliminate the “either side of the aisle” nonsense which only serves to create armies of thoughtless individuals casting a ballot in lock step with party directives. Nobody thinking no one creating, no innovation, and no accountability. The current system would be able to run just as well with monkeys, who could easily be taught to follow the orders from the back room trainers. The current system creates an adversarial situation, pitting Republicans against Democrats and completely eliminates any consideration for what is best for the citizenry.
Gov. Crist is an example of a good man, who has done wonderful things for Florida, who refused to be intimidated by party goons and rather than turn his back on trusting Floridians, chose the people over the party and escaped the party tyranny by declaring his independence.
Gov. Crist, by doing so, displayed an admirable level of class, honesty, and leadership, he deserves to be elected our next United States senator.
