May we vote on it?
To the editor:
The top conservative leaders are opposed to allowing the residents of our beautiful state to have the right to vote on off-shore drilling. It is a well-known fact that many of these, if not all, are in the pockets of the oil companies. It is obvious that if they wish to continue being lobbied or the campaigns receiving financial support, they better make their support for off-shore drilling known. Why not allow the residents to show our concern for preserving our beautiful beaches and protecting our tourism?
Want to know who they are? Jeff Atwater, Senate president, R-North Palm Beach. Mike Haridopolos, incoming Senate President, R-Melbourne, Larry Cretul, House speaker, R-Ocala, Dean Cannon, incoming House speaker, R-Winter Park. These are a few of our leaders who do not want to allow the voters the right to put the off-shore drilling ban into our State Constitution.
This has not yet passed the point of no return. We need to contact our Senators and tell them we want to vote on it. It is doubtful that they will try to influence these other Senators unless they hear from an overwhelming number of their constituents. Let’s stop being reactive and be proactive. As a voter, you have the power. Now you have the names.
