More support for Jackson
To the editor:
We are faced with electing someone as county commissioner for District 1. Several guidelines present themselves for making a choice. First, we want a person with integrity, someone who has not, nor will not violate his oath of office or bend ethical rules. Ah!
The field has narrowed immediately to three. Next, we want someone who communicates well and is able to persuade others of his well-considered ideas. Oho! Now we’re down to two. Of course, we want a person with meaningful experience across several fields, and who is not tied to just one interest, no matter how vital. Wow! That leaves us with Mike Jackson, and I can write a long letter (as some are impelled to do about their favorite topics), but I won’t, extolling the superior qualifications of this amiable man.
First, the negatives. Mike has never held an elective office, so he comes with no political baggage. That’s all I can think of, so here are the positives: Mike has extensive experience in government, locally as Economic Development Director for Cape Coral. In that office he functioned as a true idea man who dealt with all kinds of people and programs. He was not a bureaucrat hiding in a cubicle. His background includes running his own business and being a television reporter. Sitting on city council, I came to know Mike quite well and know that the one word that comprehends his friendliness, intelligence, creativity, and energy is integrity. I like Mike. You will too.
