To the editor:
The coup d’etat led by Colonel Muammar Qadaffi on 1 September, 1969 (oil was discovered in Libya in 1959) had country wide support. King Idris of the Senussi Tribe had allowed most of the oil profits to be siphoned off by the big oil companies while he lived lavishly.
Even though previous attempts for tribal unification by both the Turks (1855-1911) and Italian colonial rulers (1911-1943) failed, the country was split in two for administrative purposes. Libya consists of over 150 tribes and after Qadaffi’s victory he adroitly married a woman from the Royal Barqa Tribe and unified the nation.
Let’s look at some amazing facts on why Qadaffi is able to stay in power after having governed for over forty years, and is still loved by so many of his countrymen.
1. There is no unemployment in Libya.
2. Libya had the highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in Africa.
3. Less than 5 percent of the population is classified as poor.
4. Life expectancy in Libya is 75 years of age, highest in Africa, and 10 percent above the world average.
5. Libya has a literacy rate of 82 percent.
6. There is free health care in Libya.
7. There is free education in Libya.
8. Most Libyan families possess a house and a car except the Nomadic Bedouin, and Tuareg Tribes.
9. Riba (usury) is not permitted. The Central Bank of Libya is wholly owned by the Libyan government, and is run as a state bank with their own Libyan currency. There is no usury because there is no interest.
My credit cards interest ranges from about 7-8 percent at the Suncoast Credit Union to 23 percent at HSBC. This interest/usury system is Biblically forbidden. The fractional reserve banking scheme of the west, engineered by the privately owned Federal Reserve, is partly why Cape Coral and Lee County have ranked at the top of most foreclosure lists from 2008-2010. Everything that Muammar Qadaffi has done for his people I now believe almost every American would like to have happen in their own country.
Unfortunately, those moneyed elitists and warmongering neo-cons in control in Washington, D.C. do not want a strong country anywhere. Their lust for other countries’ wealth and natural resources is what drives their evil souls.
At Fort Hood, Texas, just outside of San Antonio (it’s ironic, that is where Jim Bowie, Colonel William Travis, and former Congressman Davie Crockett perished while defending their country from foreign invaders at the Alamo) the U.S. Army is building the largest military hospital in the world. This hospital has already been under construction for over three years and will be used to care for those injured soldiers, sailors, and Marines from our dastardly invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is an obscene gesture to old men’s wars (the military industrial complex along with the Bush/Cheney Halliburton no bid contracts).
The VA budget has jumped from under $9 billion to over $50 billion a year. Yet gullible Americans keep on their merry way hiding under their false red, white, and blue bravado as our country sinks $15 trillion in debt and Wall Street CEO’s wallow in their multi-million dollar bonuses while companies like GE pay no taxes. In my opinion there are only two things red blooded Americans should fight for; your fellow countrymen when you are being invaded, and the Bill of Rights.
Alex D. Tocqueville stated after visiting America from France after the American Revolution, “America will be great as long as America is good.” Maybe we should ask ourselves, has America ceased to be good?
And one final thing, TO HELL WITH THE NEW WORLD ORDER!!!
