Congress needs to stop feeding at the trough

To the editor:

Has anyone ever asked why certain members of Congress are so willing, indeed eager, to cut Social Security benefits? The answer is simple. Members of Congress do not pay into Social Security so they will not be effected by any cuts in this program. As members of Congress they have a built-in retirement plan paid for by us, the taxpayers.

The same is true of the Congressional Health Care Plan- only worse. Even after a member leaves Congress either by retirement or failure to be re-elected, the government Health Care Plan continues for each member and his family for life.

Wouldn’t it be fairer if the Health Care stopped when Congressional membership ceased?

Again they will not be personally effected by any cuts to Medicare or Medicaid as the plan is presently operated. Do you get a whiff of hypocrisy here?

Shouldn’t all members of Congress be required to purchase their own retirement and health care plans just like the rest of us? If they did, perhaps they would not be in such a hurry to “screw” the rest of us.

Serving in Congress should be an honor, not a career.
