Eliminate public sector unions

2 min read

To the editor:

The entire idea of justification for exactly what a public servant should be paid in salary by comparison with all other public entities is all wet, simply because it is wrong.

It is wrong and probably constitutionally so because those who work in or work for government should not be allowed to be unionized.

Government is the hub of the wheel that holds our entire free enterprise system together and in no way can it be treated the same as the spokes of such a wheel if consistency it is to be expected in its administration.

Budgets can never be maintained if a constant renegotiation of contracts remains the order of the day.

A public servant should realize that that is exactly what he or she is – a servant of the people – and made to act accordingly.

If unhappy with whatever stipend that is provided by all of “we the people,” the only alternative that may be taken is a return to one of the spokes – the free enterprise system – there can be, or should be, no other alternative.

If the stipend provided by the general public is insufficient, it will show up in the sought-for employment in the government sector and rectified only by the will of the general electorate. That is the only way – if a truly democratic system is to be maintained.

The elimination of unionism in all public service government employment, if any stability is expected to be maintained, must be implemented if sanity is ever expected to hold sway.
