All life has value
To the editor:
Another anniversary is approaching. One of which we should not be proud. It was the day that began the expansion of abortion in this nation.
When the Supreme Court ruled that the prevention by the state of Texas to allow a woman to get an abortion because the pregnancy was the result of rape was illegal, it opened the flood gates that lead to abortion for any reason. What most people don’t realize is that all states had laws on their books that allowed abortions for medical reasons. Rape was not one of them. But with the relaxation of morals in this land, women’s lib organizations came to the realization the “free” sex was creating a problem. Many unmarried women were becoming pregnant. Not because of rape, but because of the lessening of moral restraint. So by challenging the restrictions on abortions, they had their foot in the door, and that led to the gradual increase in reasons for abortions.
Dr. Seuss said back in 1954 that “a Who is a Who no matter how small.” A baby is a baby no matter how small. Eighteen days after conception, the baby’s heart starts beating. Even before the mother knows she is pregnant, that baby is alive. The Constitution states that we are entitled to Life. No one has the right to take that away from anyone. The law of the land calls that murder. We have been complicit in the murder of more than 50,000,000 people. God be merciful to us and forgive us of this terrible crime.
People should realize that just like fire, sex in its proper context is good. But out of control, it wreaks havoc on people’s lives and families. It has led to an increase in poverty for women and children alike. And the degrading of morals has exposed young children and teenagers into situations that they do not have the maturity to deal with.
God’s commandments may seem like a straight jacket to some, but they lead to a better and more fulfilling life. The control of self will do more for this country than all the government programs politicians can think of.
